Thermo Electron has promoted Andrew Hill to sales leader for weighing and inspection products for the UK, Middle East, Far East and Scandinavia. He originally joined Thermo Goring Kerr 16 years ago as export sales executive.
Pharm-Eco, a US contract provider of pharmaceutical chemistry synthesis services and part of the Johnson Matthey Group, has promoted Dr Emile Farhan to senior director of chemistry and scientific affairs. Harwood Stiles also joins the company as director of quality. He is a recognised authority in the API field and has 25 years' experience in quality assurance, quality control and regulatory affairs in the pharmaceutical, medical device, food and specialty chemical industries.
Merck KGaA has made two top management appointments for corporate development. Jon Stonehouse has been appointed head of corporate development, Merck KGaA. His responsibilities include global licensing and business development of ethical pharmaceuticals as well as corporate mergers & acquisitions. Axel-Sven Malkomes has been appointed head of corporate mergers & acquisitions. He reports to Stonehouse.
Lonza Group has announced two senior appointments. Jean-Jacques Illi has assumed the position of chief financial officer and become a member of the executive committee. John Birch, currently head of research and development of Lonza Biologics, will become chief scientific officer and member of the executive committee with effect from September 1.
Richard Crawford and Lee Shaw have joined coding and labelling specialist Markem Systems as sales executive and sales support engineer respectively. They will be responsible for providing software solutions and integrating them into existing systems.

Based at new Argenta offices in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she will be responsible for business development, focusing primarily on the West Coast, and Canada.
Designer and manufacturer of valves for the bulk solids handling industry DMN-Westinghouse has a new managing director. Marcel de Vlieger has been working with the company since July 2001 in charge of its sales office and production facilities in the Netherlands and Germany. He has now assumed responsibility for worldwide sales, marketing, r&d and production.
