Dr Anthony Martin has joined Molecular Probes as chief executive officer. Previously, Dr Martin was president of molecular biology for Invitrogen Corporation and successfully managed the integration of Invitrogen and Life Technologies, Inc., after their merger in 2000. Future plans for Molecular Probes include seeking collaborative partners to ensure its fluorescent reagents and detection solutions are applied across a wider range of applications in the life sciences marketplace.
Following the company's recent change of corporate identity, Thermo Electron's weighing and inspection business unit has appointed John Goodyear as area sales engineer for the South West of England. He was previously with BTL.
Sinclair Pharmaceuticals, an ethical pharmaceutical company focusing on oncology support and oral care and based in Godalming in the UK, has appointed Michael Killeen to the board of directors. He began his association with Sinclair as part of the ProPharma acquisition in May 2001, since which time he has been vice president of sales and marketing for the US and Pacific Rim at Sinclair.
The company has also appointed an international sales and marketing director, Gerry Sugars, who was previously general manager, international division, at Bioglan Pharma.
Two senior appointments have been made by Avecia in its pharmaceutical fine chemicals business. Dr Jamie Ferguson takes on the new role of pharmaceutical products business director, with responsibility for both new project and established product delivery performance for late phase and launched drugs.

Mike Mulcahy has been appointed sales and marketing manager at Dublin-based Ultrasonic Scientific. He has broad experience in pharma and scientific capital equipment and consumables, most recently with Waters where he was chemistry operations group manager.
