Peristaltic power and performance

Peristaltic pump specialist Watson Marlow Bredel, of Falmouth in the UK, has launched the Sci-Q 323 peristaltic pump, which claims to bring new power and functionality to the benchtop for scientific, pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications. Five pumphead options offer single or multichannel flows ranging from microlitres to 2.2 litres/minute, and up to six pumpheads can be ganged together on a single drive.

Other features include a membrane keypad with integral LCD display to ensure accuracy and enable easy cleaning, and a hygienic, chemical-resistant case. The pumps, which can be stacked up to three high, are driven by a maintenance-free, brushless DC motor, offering precise control, quiet operation.

There is currently a choice of three models. The entry-level 323E pump has manually controlled variable speed. The 323S features a greater flow rate range and flow precision, while the 323U is able to receive analogue auto-control signals and digital TTL remote control of run/stop and direction.

In spring next year these will be joined by the 323Du and 323Dz, which will incorporate respectively RS232 control and a specialist dispensing unit.
