Plate profile offers improved contact
A new contact plate launched by UK-based Bibby Sterilin is said to offer better performance than standard flat-based plates thanks to its convex profile. The domed-based model is easier to fill, gives a better meniscus with the media and produces a raised profile when dry, the company says. This increases contact between the agar bed and the surface area or environment under test, resulting in more efficient and accurate sampling.
The plates are manufactured aseptically in clean room conditions using mirror-finished moulds to eliminate mould marks or loose particle contamination. They feature a deep skirt dish base to improve stability when stacked and are triple-vented for efficient gaseous exchange. The 25cm² surface area has a numbered grid to facilitate colony counting.
