Ranbaxy buys South African generics company

Ranbaxy Laboratories, one of India's largest pharmaceutical companies, has acquired Be-Tabs Pharmaceuticals, in South Africa, for US$70m.


Ranbaxy Laboratories, one of India's largest pharmaceutical companies, has acquired Be-Tabs Pharmaceuticals, in South Africa, for US$70m.

The transaction, subject to requisite approvals from South Africa's Competition Council authority, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of the year 2007.

Be-Tabs, South Africa's 5th largest generics player, strengthens Ranbaxy's South African operations. It has a strong otc portfolio and is the largest Penicillin manufacturer in South Africa.
