ReachCentrum, a subsidiary of Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, has announced that the number of REACH consortia to be managed by its Consortium Management Services has come close to 100. This is the fruit of more than two years" intense preparatory work with companies to help them manage their REACH dossiers and meet the registration deadlines.
To date, more than 1,000 substances are being covered in consortia managed by the team of ReachCentrum Consortia Managers. There are currently more than 200 companies benefiting from the ReachCentrum Consortia services.
Forming or joining a consortium ensures a cost-effective way to work with other active registrants of the same substance on a REACH registration dossier, guaranteeing it will be handed over in time to the ECHA, with solutions and support simplifying the processes of forming and maintaining REACH consortia.
The highest priority of most registrants is achieving the registration of phase-in substances with volumes of more than 1,000 tonnes/year to meet the 2010 deadline. However, ReachCentrum is already supporting some manufacturers and importers anticipating the 2013 and even the 2018 deadline.
"Implementing REACH is proving far more challenging than anyone had ever imagined. It is a critical issue, but also a matter of credibility for companies across the whole industry. Given the short time ahead of us until the end of 2010, I really call on all companies to join the consortia formation now and not to wait till the last moment," said Alain Perroy, Cefic director general and president of ReachCentrum.
