Rephine, a UK-based consultancy that provides auditing services to international primary and secondary pharmaceutical industries, has expanded its business in Canterbury, Kent.

The company has moved to new offices and will benefit from funding from a venture capital firm to ensure its future growth.

Rephine secured £500,000 from venture capitalist MMC Ventures and has taken more than 2,000ft2 of space at Lakesview Business Park. The move has meant more modern facilities and a larger space, which will enable the company to create 10 new jobs in the area.

"We have recently experienced substantial growth and have appreciated the support that Locate in Kent has given us over the past two years," said managing director John Sullivan.

Paul Wookey, chief executive of Locate in Kent, said: "Kent has had a long history in the pharmaceutical industry and a number of major bioscience firms. The county is now creating a climate for young and innovative companies such as Rephine, which supply the bigger pharma companies, to thrive.

The county is home to approximately 150 life science companies and more than 100 r&d and testing companies, with more than 13,000 people employed in the sector.

"Kent has worked hard to develop the infrastructure and networks to support and foster innovation in the industry. We are lucky enough to have sites like Kent Science Park to provide the conditions that technology-based companies need to flourish, and unrivalled facilities at Kent Science Resource Centre and Medway School of Pharmacy, to teach the skills needed to continue to grow this sector for the future."
