RTS Life Science has scooped the 2008 North West Innovation in Engineering Award for its Automated Blood Fractionation (ABF) 500 system.

With no comparable system on the market, the ABF 500 is aimed at research facilities of all sizes. It has been developed using technology implemented at the UK Biobank. The ABF 500 is used to extract white blood cells from whole blood samples and provides the biobanking world with significant benefits including: time and labour savings, reduced DNA extraction costs, increased reproducibility, automated sample tracking and auditing. Providing a fully automated solution has previously been a laborious manual process.

The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) presented the IET North West Innovation in Engineering Award to RTS in recognition of its advancement in engineering, science and technology.
