Schott to open Chinese glass production site
German company Schott Pharmaceutical Packaging has begun building a new factory in Suzhou, China. The new production site will manufacture ampoules and vials for use by the pharmaceutical industry in China. The factory, which will employ approximately 50 people, will be integrated into the existing Schott Glass Technology Company that was established in Suzhou in 2002. Production is expected to begin in July 2006.
To manufacture its products the facility will use 'Schott Type 1' borosilicate glass, a high quality tubing glass that complies with international standards (USP, EP, and JP). The plant will be equipped with state-of-the-art production equipment and visual inspection systems, and will operate in a cleanroom environment complying with GMP. It will co-operate closely with other Schott plants around the world and will have access to the resources of Europe's largest research centre for special glasses - another Schott facility.
With the new facility Schott Pharmaceutical Packaging will become the first international manufacturer of glass primary pharmaceutical packaging to establish a production site in China.
