Chooses the DataLase PACKMARK solution to apply lot and bar codes onto pharmaceutical labels

Specialist pharmaceutical label company Schreiner MediPharm has chosen the DataLase PACKMARK solution to apply lot and bar codes onto pharmaceutical labels. DataLase PACKMARK enabled the company to integrate the variable information into the design of the label, in keeping with the clinical look favoured on pharmaceutical labels.

Traditionally, when using laser marking systems, a patch of black ink would be applied on the label and then the ink ablated to produce a negative image of the variable information within the black patch. In contrast, DataLase PACKMARK uses a low power CO2 laser to produce a positive black image on a white background without ink ablation.

The area to be marked is coated with DataLase PACKMARK, and the laser then causes a chemical colour change in the coating. This process demonstrates high-speed marking capability and excellent resistance against rubbing for maximum brand protection. No additional printing foil is required.

DataLase PACKMARK's laser-based print engine is highly efficient with almost 100% production uptime. The lifetime of the laser is in excess of 30,000 hours and requires little maintenance and no replacing of print heads due to wear and tear.

'By replacing traditional marking systems with this solution we have managed to produce labels that are in keeping with the pharmaceutical style, while also achieving reductions in costs and time as well as increased production efficiency,' said Peter Seidl, director technical support, Schreiner MediPharm.
