Sharp Packaging Services has finished its move from the Phoenixville, Pennsylvania facility to the new building in Bethlehem. The GMP facility for clinical projects was acquired for US$14m, then a further $9m was invested to refit the site and relocate services. Sharp plans to expand packaging capacity and introduce new capabilities at the site.
Now that the relocation is complete all the clinical services are co-located in one facility, including packaging. This reduces risks, costs and supply chain complexity, the company said.
The new facility has 1.5 million cubic feet of clinical service rooms and increased pallet space by about 50%.
Frank Lis, Sharp Clinical Services President, said Sharp Packaging has “added small scale commercial packaging capabilities to the Bethlehem site which enables seamless scale-up to commercialization for our clients”.
Sharp is a part of UDG Healthcare plc, a contract packaging and clinical supply service company. In 2013, all packaging companies under UDG were rebranded as Sharp Packaging Services.
