Sigma-Aldrich Corporation has announced plans to build a US$8m laboratory scale production complex in Hyderabad, India.


Sigma-Aldrich Corporation has announced plans to build a US$8m laboratory scale production complex in Hyderabad, India.

The 50,000 ft facility will serve as a feeder site for the company's larger scale production operations in Germany, Switzerland, the UK and the US.

It will house 70-80 chemists engaged in contract research, process development and small scale custom synthesis work, mainly for the pharmaceutical sector, and is expected to be operational by the first quarter of next year.

'This complex is the next logical step in our com-pany's expansion in India,' said Jai Nagarkatti, president - scientific research, who was born in Hydera-bad. 'From simple beginnings as a liaison office in 1992, our business in India has grown rapidly, doubling to just under $11m in sales over the past three years alone.'
