Solexa and New England Biolabs enter enzyme supply agreement
New England Biolabs (NEB), supplier of enzymes and technologies to the life science market, will provide genetic analysis company Solexa with certain key enzymes and other reagents for use with the Solexa Genome Analysis System.
New England Biolabs (NEB), supplier of enzymes and technologies to the life science market, will provide genetic analysis company Solexa with certain key enzymes and other reagents for use with the Solexa Genome Analysis System.
NEB will also manufacture Solexa's proprietary sequencing-by-synthesis polymerase. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
With its systems already installed at leading institutes, Solexa is commercialising a next-generation sequencing technology that has the potential to produce 100-fold more bases per run than conventional technologies, at less than 1% of the cost.
The company says the Solexa Genome Analysis System will enable researchers to tackle a broad range of applications including whole-genome and candidate region sequencing, digital expression profiling, and small RNA discovery and analysis.
Dr Fiona Stewart, business development manager at NEB, said that the agreement is "of great value to NEB, allowing us to contribute to an area which has the potential to change both biological research and the practice of human medicine."
