Solutia Pharmaceutical Services Division (Solutia PSD), the drug development services provider, has recently expanded its existing AMCIS facility by opening two new buildings, totaling 8,000m2.

Coupled with the expansion, Solutia PSD has officially moved its divisional headquarters from Farnborough UK to Bubendorf, Switzerland. 'We believe that by moving Solutia PSD's headquarters to Bubendorf and joining the AMCIS offices, the company has further demonstrated its commitment to best serving its clients,' said Tom Waldman, commercial director for Solutia PSD. 'The integration of the chemistry business deepens Solutia PSD's position as a leading provider of drug development services.'

Solutia PSD is centralising management and chemistry operations in order to more effectively deliver seamless services to clients. The buildings will include facilities to house administrative staff as well as technical staff with new labs and a state-of-the art pilot plant for the production of highly potent APIs.

The buildings will house chemists, project managers and quality assurance specialists as well as administrative, finance and marketing personnel. 'We are very excited to have a new state-of-the-art pilot plant dedicated to the production of highly potent APIs for both clinical and in-market use,' said Mark Griffiths, director of operations for Solutia PSD. 'The new facilities in Bubendorf offer unique, advanced levels of technology that validate the business's philosophy of developing such specialised buildings.'

The new facility was inaugurated last December and administrative facilities are fully operational immediately. The containment plant will be operational during second quarter of 2004.
