Stora Enso to launch brand authentication solution
Stora Enso, a Finnish integrated paper, packaging and forest products company, has developed PackAgent, a brand protection and authentication solution that could enable pharmaceutical products to be tracked and authenticated throughout the supply chain.
The PackAgent solution is based on Trackway software, developed by the Finnish specialist software provider Stockway. The solution integrates various identification technologies into the packaging, enabling tracking of products at both unit level and pallet level. Identification can be based on RFID tags, individual barcodes that are enabled by digital printing, or other identification technologies.
Stora Enso has entered into a strategic co-operation with BearingPoint, a US-based management and technology consulting firm, for the sales, delivery and systems integration of the PackAgent solution in Europe and the US.
'Counterfeiting is a major issue among many of our clients and the PackAgent solution provides a new way to fight it. The fact that this product authentication solution can also be based on individual barcodes, represents a great opportunity and roadmap for companies that are not ready for RFID,' says Marko Toivari, BearingPoint Finland's supply chain team leader.
