Sun Pharma Global recalls osteoporosis drug in US
After an 'unknown purity' was discovered in cartons of alendronate sodium tablets
Around 380,000 cartons of an osteoporosis drug manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries are being recalled in the US due to the presence of an 'unknown impurity'.
Sun Pharma Global Fze, an arm of the Indian pharma major, has decided to recall 381,120 cartons of alendronate sodium tablets, which are indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in post menopausal women, and to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis.
The drug is also used in the treatment of glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis, and Paget’s disease of the bone in men and women.
