Belgian chemical distributor Univar is strengthening its presence in Benelux and France with the acquisition of the Quaron Group for an undisclosed sum.

Quaron exports chemical products to more than 30 countries from its main distribution depots in Zwijndrecht (the Netherlands), Tournai/Doornik (Belgium) and Rennes, Montereau, Cestas-Bordeaux, Niort and Lille-Haubourdin (France).

"Quaron is a perfect fit for Univar," said John van Osch, president, Univar EMEA. "Its efficient commodity network complements our industry focused product ranges in Benelux and France, and its site in the Netherlands will create new business and operational opportunities for us."

"The expected synergies will mean even better service to customers," added John Regout, chief executive of Quaron.

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval by the EU Commission.

Univar operates a network of approximately 170 distribution centres throughout North America, Europe and China.
