Whitehouse Scientific, of Chester in the UK, is encouraging young scientists by helping to provide new facilities at local Mill View Primary School. The school's new computer suite has been fitted out personally by Whitehouse Scientific's managing director Graham Rideal to accommodate 11 computers acquired with the help of a grant from the National Grid for Learning. The suite also has an interactive video whiteboard, purchased with help from MBNA Bank, whose financial centre is in Chester.
In 2000, Dr Rideal designed and built Mill View Primary School's science laboratory and a designed a science trail built around Key Stage II requirements in the national curriculum. He believes that interest must be captured and maintained from an early age if science is to flourish in the UK. Dr Rideal is a scientist of international reputation having founded Whitehouse Scientific more than 20 years ago.
