Wolff opens SCM plant
A £1.8m manufacturing facility has been opened in Prudhoe by UK company Specials Clinical Manufacturing (SCM).
The purpose-built unit includes a self contained suite for processing hazardous materials, a class 10,000 (class C) cleanroom for all non-sterile manufacturing and packaging orders and a sterile manufacturing unit.
SCM's technical director Brian Dougherty said: 'We have paid close attention to the demands of the industry, and with this in mind we have built a manufacturing unit that is capable of delivering first class products that meet the individual needs of customers.'
The company offers a full documentation service, container compatibility studies and QP review and release. It is planning to expand its services to include terminally sterilised and aseptic products in early 2005.
TV presenter Professor Heinz Wolff, pictured with Fiona Cruickshank, managing director of SCM, and Dougherty, opened the new facilities.
SCM's sister company - The Specials Laboratory - currently employs more than 45 staff. It was awarded the title of North East Small Business of the Year 2004.
