To help the country defeat HIV/AIDS epidemic

The World Bank is planning to spend US$25.6m improving the efficiency of pharmaceutical supplies to help Malawi defeat its continuing HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The programme includes disposing of pharmaceutical waste in sealed pits or by incineration, while large quantities of unused pharmaceuticals will be returned to suppliers if possible.

The project will also offer all Malawi health workers vaccinations against hepatitis.
