Experienced help in solving product-quality or manufacturing problems and a rapid-response analysis service is now on hand for the pharmaceutical industry, according to Dr Sharon Dowd, business development manager for Shell Global Solutions (SGS).

SGS has introduced a rapid-response analytical and measurement service, with extensive, multidisciplinary facilities, support activities ranging from standard chemical analyses and physical testing, through to complex investigations and collaborative projects. Skills in molecular spectroscopy are backed by a wide range of modern instruments for elemental analysis, solids and surface analysis, electron microscopy, separations and chromatography.

The division was initially set up to support the Royal Dutch/Shell Group's global oil and gas network, but is now a stand-alone unit within that company, looking to expand the business into other scientific areas, including pharmaceuticals.
