Traceability is a way to minimise production and distribution of unsafe or poor quality products, so regulators around the world have been working to develop a standard for a secure electronic version of the chain-of-custody of pharmaceuticals to prevent counterfeit drugs from entering the supply chain. To meet emerging serialisation mandates and requirements, serialised packaging data management (SPDM) solutions have been designed to convert demand from the pharmaceutical manufacturer’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to drive individual packaging lines and production cells. Such a solution could include bottle identification and verification; label printing and verification; bottle and label cross-referencing; bundle aggregation; case aggregation; and pallet aggregation
