Alfa monitors separators

Published: 3-Feb-2001

Alfa Laval has introduced Cosmos (condition status monitoring system) for monitoring key components on its centrifugal separators.

Comprising a computer, a data receiving unit and a number of sensors to continuously measure vibration, Cosmos can monitor bearings, disc stack compression, bowls, nozzles, motors, couplings, paring discs and other key components. According to Alfa Laval, it can even tell if the user has added the wrong type of oil to the gearbox.

It converts vibration signals into 13 parameters that describe the rotational, frictional and shock forces working within the centrifuge. The computer then analyses these values and updates the machine status on a continuous basis.
