AM Technology joins EU funded flow chemistry project
AM Technology, a UK developer of chemical reactors and reactor control systems, has joined an EU-funded project that seeks to develop flow processes for the industrial synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds.
AM Technology, a UK developer of chemical reactors and reactor control systems, has joined an EU-funded project that seeks to develop flow processes for the industrial synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds.
AM Technology, based in Runcorn, Cheshire, says greater use of flow chemistry within the industry will bring substantial benefits in terms of reduced manufacturing costs, lower carbon footprints and less pollution. However, developing flow chemistry techniques for industrial pharmaceutical processes faces a variety of technical and regulatory hurdles and the Pharmagen project will use a multi disciplinary approach to tackle them.
The two-year Pharmagen project is being coordinated by Serichim of Italy and has other five partners. It has funding from the EU Commission DG Research within the VII Framework Programme for Research and Development.
AM Technology says its patented Coflore ACR (Agitated Cell Reactor) is the first modular multi stage CSTR and represents a breakthrough in flow reactor design. It features dynamic mixers combined with multiple reaction stages and, the company says, offers outstanding mixing, plug flow and versatility.
