ABR Pharma, Paris, France and Information Mediary (IMC), Ottawa, Canada have launched Med-ic ECM (Electronic Compliance Monitoring) packaging in Europe, developed to address the multi-billion dollar healthcare problem of patient noncompliance with prescribed medication.
'Med-ic sets the global standard in electronic compliance monitoring. Until recently, little could be done to assess the degree to which side effects or poor clinical response are due to poor compliance,' said Dr. Allan Wilson, president of IMC. 'Through careful use of the Med-ic technology standard, it is possible to de-link side effects and non-response from poor compliance during therapy, to evaluate the safety and efficacy of compounds during clinical research, and to promote the non problematic use of opiate analgesics.'
'ABR Pharma's vision is to improve medical practice in France and beyond', said Dr. Eric Leutenegger, medical director of ABR. 'Med-ic compliance packaging technology allows physicians and patients to better interact and improve management of chronic therapy. ABR can now offer a unique insight into patient adherence, both during drug development in clinical trials and in real life therapy.'
Under the agreement ABR Pharma acquires the exclusive rights to market and integrate Med-ic for use in pharmaco-epidemiological and clinical research studies in France. It will also make the technology available for use in other European countries.
