Axis X3 displays its power
One example of the latest high performance x-ray inspection equipment is the Axis X3 from Loma Systems. Axis X3 is designed to detect minute contaminants and product defects and is built to deliver better performance at higher speeds. Operating in excess of 90m/min, the scan rate of the Axis X3 is double that of standard x-ray conveyor systems. Its higher speed capabilities mean that there is no loss in sensitivity on fast-moving production lines that are common in the pharmaceutical industry.
The linear array produces clear images that are twice the resolution of those generated by existing systems thanks to the 16-bit adaptive technology, while different sensor options provide the right sensitivity match for specific product applications, ranging in size from 0.25 to 0.8mm. With storage capacity in excess of 1000 images, operators can carry out a detailed analysis of defects off-line and archive the images to complete QC records.
The Axis X3 AutoTrack software provides optimum contaminant detection, along with the ability to identify product defects, such as low fill, missing items, broken or misshapen product. The system's powerful x-ray source provides a good image contrast and will detect softer contaminants such as rubber or plastic. Data from Axis X3 can also be incorporated into centralised plant control systems (SCADA), enabling production managers to have a complete overview of their production lines.
With a Windows NT operating system and dual Pentium processors, Axis X3 is future-proof and upgradeable, and the familiar Windows environment uses easy-read menu options, making it more user-friendly for operators. Its integrated help screen guides users through any queries, minimising downtime through operator error. Modem support is also available for Axis X3, enabling rapid on-line diagnosis by Loma's help desk. This facility provides additional customer support and can help minimise downtime on the production line and limit engineer call outs.
