Benefits of multi-parameter transmitters in pharmaceutical manufacturing

Transmitter-sensor combination saves cost and complexity

The FDA’s Process Analytical Technology (PAT) initiative recognises that a high quality, consistent, safe product is more likely to be obtained by process control. If a product design is understood and its manufacture, including variables, is controlled and consistent then a predictable product can be manufactured.

To gain an understanding of process, data measurements are necessary to make process control decisions. This concept is especially critical for water production since water is the single most widely used material by every producer worldwide.

Mettler Toledo’s online process sensors are designed as a transmitter-sensor combination. The transmitter measures the input/output of a TOC or conductivity sensor and produces a reading. The advantage of using a multi-parameter transmitter is that the user may add other process parameters such as total organic carbon (TOC), conductivity, pH, oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), dissolved oxygen, dissolved ozone, flow and tank level. Multiple sensors may be connected to the same transmitter, saving cost and complexity.
