Drug delivery technology company Bespak is building an elastomer manufacturing facility at its King's Lynn site as the latest development in its six-year £23m investment strategy.

The facility will guarantee the future supply of specialised elastomers for Bespak's Pressurised Metered Dose Inhaler (pMDI) valves.

The new facility will be integrated into the 2000m2 extension opened in November 2003. It will operate within its own 600m2 manufacturing hall, which will provide end-to-end production capabilities for elastomer mixing, milling, moulding and finishing. The facility is expected become operational during 2006 but will not reach full capacity until some time later.

'This is another important step forward for Bespak and will allow us to expand our core expertise while at the same time, providing greater flexibility and control in developing new materials with customers,' said Mark Throdahl, ceo of Bespak.

As part of the expansion, Bespak signed a supply agreement with West Pharmaceutical Services, the world's leader in the development and manufacture of pharmaceutical elastomers. It included a three year skills transfer clause in the Bespak supply agreement to provide the new King's Lynn site with state-of-the-art elastomer processing knowledge.
