Corsearch has launched Corsearch Pharma, an AI-powered trademark search and clearance platform designed to streamline pharmaceutical naming and help drug developers identify potential trademark and regulatory conflicts earlier in product development.
The platform brings name generation, bulk screening, trademark clearance, regulatory review, domain searching and collaboration into a single workflow, replacing fragmented processes that can delay pharmaceutical product launches.
AI-powered screening streamlines drug naming
According to Corsearch, the platform enables teams to screen up to 150 candidate names in bulk while simultaneously assessing Phonetic and Orthographic Computer Analysis (POCA) risk.
This allows naming teams to filter out unsuitable candidates earlier and focus on names with greater potential to pass trademark and regulatory review.
Unlike consumer products, pharmaceuticals must satisfy both trademark requirements and regulatory naming standards, including assessments of Look-Alike/Sound-Alike (LASA) risks that could contribute to medication errors.
Corsearch reports that regulatory bodies reject 20-30% of proposed drug names because of LASA concerns.
With more than 20,000 APIs on the global market, identifying distinctive names that meet both requirements is becoming increasingly complex.
The platform consolidates pharmaceutical name development and clearance, aiming to improve collaboration between teams and reduce the inefficiencies associated with navigating multiple systems and datasets.
Patent expirations increase pressure on drug developers
The launch comes amid a significant wave of pharmaceutical patent expirations.
Market research firm Norstella estimates that more than $500bn in projected global drug sales could lose patent protection by 2033, increasing pressure on pharmaceutical companies to develop, acquire and launch replacement products.
Traditional naming processes often involve screening candidates individually across multiple systems and datasets.
Corsearch said this fragmented approach can create inefficiencies, limit collaboration and increase the risk of late-stage rejection, potentially delaying product launches and affecting commercial performance.
“Pharmaceutical naming is one of the most complex and high-stakes stages of product development,” said Viji Krishnan, President of Trademark Solutions at Corsearch.
Look-Alike/Sound-Alike risk is quietly costing the industry time, money and patient access.
"Corsearch Pharma redefines that risk by bringing the entire process into one cohesive, connected workflow, helping teams make faster, more informed naming decisions.”
Unified workflow aims to reduce regulatory risk
By combining AI-enabled name generation, trademark screening, regulatory review and domain searching, Corsearch Pharma said that it was aiming to help pharma companies identify viable names earlier in development and reduce the risk of late-stage rejection.
The company said the platform is designed for both in-house pharma teams and specialist law firms, supporting more informed naming decisions while improving cross-functional visibility.
As patent-protected medicines lose exclusivity and competition for distinctive drug names intensifies, Corsearch is positioning itself as a partner that helps pharma businesses navigate the complexities of trademark and regulatory clearance while accelerating naming decisions and supporting product launches.
