Kennicott ends need for chemical cleaning
An environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to existing elecrodeionisation modules, suitable for pharmaceutical manufacturers, has been developed by UK-based Christ-Kennicott Water Technology. The Septrosan unit uses hot water disinfection rather than chemical cleaning solutions. During the cleaning cycle the entire EDI module is heated to a temperature of 85°C, which destroys or inactivates any micro-organisms present in the system.
The process is said to take less time than conventional disinfection, thus increasing plant availability. Further cost savings arise from not buying cleaning chemicals. The system also prevents the potential chemical contamination of downstream processes.
