Mettler Toledo launches oxygen sensors for biopharma applications
Advanced optical technology offers easy handling combined with high performance
Mettler Toledo Process Analytics has launched the InPro 6860i, a series of dissolved oxygen (DO) sensors for the biopharma industry that combine a highly accurate and reliable optical measurement technique with automatic drift compensation and plug-and-measure installation.
Central to the operational benefits of the new sensors is the company's Intelligent Sensor Management (ISM) concept, simplifying sensor handling and maintenance with advanced features not available on non-ISM sensors. ISM's predictive diagnostics enable operators to determine easily whether lnPro 6860i sensors require maintenance before their next use.
Sensors based on optical measurement are favoured in biofermentation processes as they exhibit low drift. With the InPro 6860i, any drift that occurs is automatically compensated for by the ISM technology. These two features provide high measurement stability and assure batch-to-batch consistency maintenance, says Mettler Toledo.
For installation flexibility, InPro 6860i DO sensors output a digital signal for use with ISM transmitters and an analogue (nA) signal for biocontrollers. Hygienic design requirements are addressed with a Teflon-coated and O-ring-free sensing element that resists biofouling and is easily cleaned.
‘Mettler Toledo’s new DO sensors offer unequalled performance and ease of handling,’ said Jürgen Illerhaus, head of product management at Mettler Toledo Process Analytics. ‘Combined with the outstanding robustness and user friendliness of the sensor, we are able to meet the demanding process requirements from direct integration in bench top fermentors to validated production processes.’
