Parker Bioscience launches new system to support process and product protection

Published: 14-Jun-2018

The new system combines fully automated bulk filtration and dispensing of biopharmaceutical products with a unique and validated shipping solution that ensures product integrity across the supply chain

It has been designed to offer a high level of process protection at a previously overlooked stage of production, namely, the bulk pack off of the active pharmaceutical ingredients

The SciLog SciPure FD System is an automated single-use system for the filtration and dispensing of products into either bottles or bags. It has been designed to offer a high level of process protection at a previously overlooked stage of production, namely, the bulk pack off of the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). The system’s hardware and consumables have been developed in tandem to minimise product losses and maximise yield.

Parker Bioscience is a division of Parker Hannifin, a global diversified manufacturer of motion and control technologies and systems. The division designs, supplies and delivers whole systems for both upstream and downstream pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

The division, which has sites in Birtley, UK and Oxnard, California, supports companies in improving process control, efficiency and security throughout their production and packaging processes, and provides integrated bioprocessing solutions that speed up development times, increase efficiency and safety, and enable reproducible quality. Incorporating SciLog and domnick hunter, Parker Bioscience combines filtration, single-use fluid-handling systems and sensors into automated single-use solutions.

Parker Bioscience’s fully validated shipping solution has been designed to complement and extend the capabilities of the SciLog SciPure FD System. Parker Bioscience has created a patented (pending) bottle design that offers manufacturers the confidence that bulk drug products will arrive at their final destinations without contamination. The division drew on its extensive material science knowledge during the development of the bottle. The bottle integrity has been validated down to -89oC while undergoing a validated shipping study (ASTM D4169).

Guy Matthews, Market Development Manager at Parker Bioscience, said: “The SciLog SciPure FD System – together with our validated shipping solution – has been developed in close conjunction with a number of industry partners. It is a great example of the value an organisation like Parker can bring.

“We have been able to bring process knowledge, automation expertise, single-use manufacturing and material science to bear to create a truly unique solution for our customers.”
