US-based company Videojet Technologies has introduced a new addition to its range of ink jet printers.

The new Videojet 2320 large character ink jet printer from the specialist manufacturer of coding, printing and laser marking products has been designed to fill a gap in the market for a cost effective solution to outer case coding. Until now, a limited choice of printhead sizes has often resulted in unnecessary costs for the outer case coding industry. Videojet Technologies newest addition is a high-resolution on-line printer, which codes variable data onto corrugated shipping containers for applications that require code heights up to 50 mm, in a unique single printhead.

The 2320 model reduces cost of ownership compared to competitor printers due to its smart automatic self-cleaning and self-maintenance system that continuously keeps printheads free of dust and debris, eliminating the need for manual cleaning. A non-contact system avoids printhead damage that can occur during periodic maintenance required on other printers.

"The new printer is part of Videojet's 2300 series of large character printers that cover code heights from 0.8 to 2.7 inches to meet a variety of case coding needs," says Graham Podmore, Videojet's product manager for secondary packaging. "By printing variable information onto cases on-line, these printers provide a dependable means to substantially reduce inventory expense by eliminating the need for pre-printed cases. Alternatively, they can also be a very cost-effective alternative to print and apply labeling."

Videojet's 2300 series printers are the industry's only large character printers that recycle and reuse ink used during automatic printhead maintenance. The printers also have an air-driven ink system eliminating potential downtime due to maintenance on pumps, solenoids and other moving parts. New ink is added simply and cleanly using sealed, non-pressurised containers, without stopping production. All ink used within the maintenance process is automatically recycled and filtered for re-use with no waste or mess, ensuring a clean operating area and maximum uptime between ink refills.

The CLARITY touch-screen interface provides a simple and secure means to change images in seconds, get on-board help or view the current image on the WYSIWYG display. Users can prepare and preview the next job while running the current image, monitor performance or carry out powerful diagnostics, all without having to halt the line.
