To meet the growing demand for an agile and responsive supply chain driven by segmentation initiatives within the pharmaceutical industry, Schreiner MediPharm has established a process centre for the late-stage customisation of functional labels.
A special process centre has been established to ensure optimal process flow and guarantee that the exacting quality requirements of the pharmaceutical industry are met.
Initially, the labels are preproduced in large quantities with all required functional features, such as die-cut hangers, detachable documentation parts or integrated security features, as well as standard text and stored as semifinished products in Schreiner MediPharm’s warehouse.
On demand, the pre-manufactured labels are customised using digital printing and delivered within a few days. This meets customer segmentation requirements with small volumes and volatile demand.
Schreiner MediPharm’s late-stage customisation service addresses the challenges of the pharmaceutical industry, which is confronted with constantly changing market conditions and growing segmentation efforts. Various country specific regulations, different languages and special packaging formats require high flexibility and adjustments with a short lead time.
Pharmaceutical products targeting more specialised medical needs, such as orphan drugs, and growing cost pressures play an important role as well. ‘The pharmaceutical customer benefits from late-stage customisation through short lead times, fast delivery and high flexibility,’ explains Ann L. Merchant, President of Schreiner MediPharm.
‘Furthermore, the customer saves internal costs: there are no minimum order quantities, warehousing expenses are minimised and the destruction of printed labels owing to text revisions is eliminated,’ she added. An expert team specializing in late stage customization ensures individual and comprehensive consulting support. Specific workflows and shared processes are developed in joint workshops with the respective customer.
