West Pharmaceutical Services has announced three management appointments as part of its Asia-Pacific expansion plans to meet growing customer demand. The new team will lead projects to expand West's existing capacity in Singapore and establish new operations in China. Ron Van Dijk will be managing director and vice president Asia-Pacific. Technology development and coordination of equipment and processes for the expansion will be led by Marc Kreutz, who has been with West for over 26 years. Operational aspects, including construction and installation of West's new site in China, will be managed by Matthias Quint in his new role as Project Director, China. Quint has led major European expansion projects over the last five years and has been closely aligned with West's manufacturing operations since 2000.

Marco Hartmann (above) has been appointed project manager process systems at Malvern Instruments in Germany. In this role he succeeds Oliver Schmitt, who moved to Malvern's UK headquarters earlier this year to lead the company's growing process business worldwide. Hartmann has worked for Malvern since 2003 as applications specialist for rheology systems. He will be responsible for on-line particle measurement techniques in Germany, with particular interest in their increasing role in process optimisation.

Nobilon, the human vaccines business of Organon BioSciences, has appointed Joost Helsen as general manager. Nobilon is a strategic initiative, founded in 2002, that bridges Intervet's expertise in vaccine development with Organon's ability to register and market human health care products. Helsen joined Organon in 1985. After having served in various financial functions within Organon and Akzo Nobel, he joined Intervet in 1995 as controller. He will have a pivotal role in the execution of the overall Organon BioSciences biotechnology strategy. Helsen previously worked at Intervet and has been a member of the executive committee of Intervet.

Robert Speziale

Robert Speziale, vice president of business development at instrument and custom automation firm Invetech, has been appointed as chair of the SBS (Society for Biomolecular Sciences') Partners in Commerce Committee, in a unanimous decision from the SBS board. As committee chair, Speziale will balance the interests of commercial vendors and the r&d community, and uphold the mission of the society, which is to advance the science and technology of biomolecular sciences. Speziale has held a variety of management positions within healthcare, in vitro diagnostics and life sciences organisations and at a world recognized blood center, giving him over 30 years experience in the industry.

Emmanuel Martin is to join IntegraGen as director of sales and marketing for its new Genetic Research Services business unit. Previously Martin worked at Applied Biosystems in France as a senior sales specialist in SNP genotyping and gene expression. In the eight years at Applied, he also worked as a business developer and research field engineer in real time PCR. Martin has over six years of research experience in molecular biology and will be based at IntegraGen's offices in Evry, near Paris. He will be responsible for promoting IntegraGen's genotyping services and for client and distributors relations.
